Here, familiar images of rural Northern Vietnam remain intact: the village gate, banyan tree, communal well, and lotus pond. From the layout of village paths and houses to the shared community spaces, everything reflects the identity of a traditional agricultural village shaped by a rice-based civilization.
A day in Đường Lâm often begins with a cycling journey through quiet alleys, visiting Mông Phụ Communal House, a nearly 400-year-old structure that remains the cultural and social center of the village. The experience continues with lunch at a 300-year-old ancestral home, where the host family still produces rice wine and soy sauce using traditional methods. Simple home-cooked dishes are prepared in the family kitchen, offering guests a warm and authentic taste of everyday village life.

In the afternoon, we cycle onward to Xuân Sơn Village along country paths winding past gentle hills and bamboo groves. Along the way, it is not unusual to encounter a flock of ducks crossing the path, water buffalo grazing on the hillside, or young boys sitting casually on the backs of buffalo, small but vivid scenes of rural Northern Vietnam.
The day ends with a refreshing glass of lemongrass-infused orange juice, followed by a relaxing herbal foot soak before saying goodbye to Đường Lâm and returning to Hanoi.
If this is the kind of Northern Vietnam you’ve been hoping to find, we know exactly how to take you there. 🌾
